:: VISION
The Austrian Society for Alpine and High Altitude Medicine (ÖGAHM) consists of a large European community of specialists, with members from over a dozen countries. The Austrian Society for Alpine and High Altitude Medicine is primarily a communication and information forum for individuals, institutions, and clubs interested in Alpine and High Altitude Medicine. The Society cooperates closely with the International Society for Mountain Medicine, the Medical Commission of the UIAA and the IKAR, as well as the Austrian Mountain Rescue, the Alpine Associations of Austria, the Chamber of Austrian Medical Doctors, the Austrian Union of Sport Medical Doctors, the German Federation of Sport Medical Doctors, and other national alpine medicine organizations.
Along with the promotion of pertinent research projects, our special assignment lies in integrating scientific theory and practical experience in all areas of mountain sports medicine. That includes the expansion, intensification, and coordination of the national and international Alpine and High Altitude Medicine knowledge base both inside and outside of the physicians' community.
We deal with all forms of alpinism like skiing, trekking, expeditions, alpine travel and vacation medicine, preventive medicine and therapy in the mountains, ski accident prevention, and other relevant topics.
We organize conventions, symposiums, and training courses in addition to continuing education events. Our publications include; newsletters, scientific yearbooks, bulletins, specialty publications, and resolutions. Our members receive preference at all society activities and should actively participate in these events with their contributions. The Austrian Society for Alpine and High Altitude Medicine is not only open to doctors, but also open to all interested people or institutions, nationally or internationally.
